• On August 11, 2006, MBWC was recognized for our support of the Fire Department and Lifeguards at an event
held at Tower 15 in Mission Beach. Assistant Fire Chief Javier Mainar praised the members of the Mission Beach Women’s
Club who have donated their time and energy to raise funds which will benefit the public. In all, we collected $19,000 to
purchase valuable pieces of equipment to assist our lifeguards and firefighters in saving lives and keeping people safe.
Our donations have been used to purchase another portable lifeguard tower and a Thermal Imager for fire crews at Station 21.
The new tower will allow towers along Mission Beach to be grouped closer together, and that means better visual coverage
for the lifeguards and less risk of someone in trouble not being seen. The Thermal Imager allows firefighters the ability
to see through smoke enabling them to find victims faster and identify the source of the fire earlier. Chief Mainar expressed
thanks for the generous efforts of the Mission Beach Women's Club that will directly enhance the public safety services provided
to citizens. "On behalf of the citizens of San Diego and the men and women of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, I extend
my sincere gratitude to the women's club for its commitment to community leadership." Lifeguard Chief Ken Hewitt also also
expressed appreciation behalf of the 100 men and women who guard the beach for the commitment and focus that the members of
MBWC have placed being partners with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. At the conclusion of the event, MBWC was presented
with a photo montage in appreciation of the work and generosity of the members
