News of Our 2008 Fundraiser Recipients! This year's recipient is the
Mission Bay High School Band. Funds will be donated to purchase musical instruments that will groom students for placement
in the MBHS Jazz Band and competition level performance skills. MBHS jazz band is already
winning awards, playing local venues and traveling to competitions. Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools
(FOPBSS) set a financial goal to earn $10,000 annually in order to build the MBHS music department in to a top rated
program. This year, FOPBSS is able to fund $6,000 towards their goal. The San Diego Unified School District will
pay for the music director’s salary but there are no District funds to perpetuate this program with instruments, structural
improvements, audio equipment, computers/software and more. Since the program started just last year, the instrument
“wish list’ is indeed long but their commitment to maintain this program stands firm.

MISSION
BEACH WOMAN’S CLUB SELECTED AS RECIPIENT OF THIRD ANNUAL FRIENDS OF PB SECONDARY SCHOOLS OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE
AWARD
(Pacific Beach, CA) May 22, 2008. The Mission Beach Woman’s Club has
been awarded the Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools third annual Outstanding Community Service Award for their generous
donation totaling over $16,000 to purchase instruments for the Mission Bay High School (MBHS) music program. The Mission
Beach Woman’s Club recognized this new program required substantial private funding to provide instruments in order
to maximize the benefits of music for participating MBHS students. After an initial grant of $1,000 to the music program,
the Mission Beach Woman’s Club then voted to make MBHS the recipient of their annual silent auction which generated
another $15,000+ for the program. States Pam Deitz, FOPBSS Public Relations, “The Mission Beach Woman’s
Club donation is an unprecedented one time donation towards supporting music in our community. We are so grateful for
their support! They exemplify the spirit of which this award was intended and have set an excellent example of how our
community can work together to make the beach area a better place to live.”
